2020-246 is now “CHARLIE.”
Background: Found by Good Samaritans on Sunday, January 19th in Hesperia (cross streets Main and Peach). Suspected Weimaraner; turned over to CalWEAR on Monday, January 20th.
Initial assessment: Female dog appears to be a fawn Doberman. Age unknown but suspected very young (less than 12 months old) based on dental condition and feet to body ratio. Ears are uncropped; tail docked to standard Doberman length. Very apparent tan markings. Extreme case of mange, variety unknown.
Medical evaluation: Skin scraping and exfoliative cytology yielded juvenile Demodectic Mange (not contagious!). Dog also has secondary bacterial and yeast infections. Given Bravecto. On 14 days of Clavacillin 375mg and has 5 days of Deramaxx chews. Also given medicated bath and Miconahex + Triz shampoo for take-home twice weekly baths. Heart murmur found; grade unknown. Unknown if spayed. Not microchipped. Total cost: $458.96. A big shout out to TEHACHAPI VETERINARY HOSPITAL for your excellent care!!!!!
Hesperia Animal Services: Contacted by CalWEAR and is aware of the dog. CalWEAR has been authorized to keep on “citizen hold” for two weeks while we collectively try to locate the owner. If no owner comes forward, dog will remain in CalWEAR custody until turned over to Doberman Rescue or adopted by vetted home.
Prognosis and outlook: VERY GOOD
Temperament and personality: Sweet and kind (likes to give kisses)
Current status: Available for adoption once healthy, current on vaccinations, cleared of hold window, and spayed.
