MEET GUNNER! Gunner is an approximately 7 year old neutered male Weimaraner, microchipped, and up to date on all of his shots. He came to us from Monica, the rescue coordinator at Animal Friends of the Valleys in Wildomar, CA. Gunner was surrendered to the shelter by his family for reasons unknown, and was brought into rescue because he didn’t do well in the shelter’s kennel environment. (Can you blame him?!)
The shelter indicates that “Gunner is a sweet boy but he can get scared and will sometimes freeze on leash. He also doesn’t like his feet being messed with.”
Gunner’s former family indicated that Gunner was a great pet, housebroken, good with people, kids, and farm animals. They also mentioned he had some anxiety walking on slick surfaces and didn’t like having his feet handled… which is why he had long nails.
The first thing CalWEAR did when getting Gunner was to take him to our vet. He now has a clean bill of health, minus the following notes:
- Gunner is very overweight – Vet suspected possible low thyroid so we ran a thyroid panel on him. Good news, his thyroid is normal! He just needs to lose a few pounds
- Gunner has a small cyst over one of his eyes – Vet says it’s not a big deal but recommends that it be removed
- Gunner also has some small fatty tumors – just a sign of aging and he doesn’t consider it to be a concern
The vet was also successfully able to trim Gunner’s nails, despite the fact that the previous owners indicated they were unable to do so.
